The Pfunderer Höhenweg trail

The Pfunderer Höhenweg trail is a unique path through almost completely unspoilt natural surroundings that stretches from Sterzing to Pfalzen and which takes several days to hike! The route lasts 6 days, although it is possible to complete it in less time. Overnight accommodation is available in a number of mountain refuges along the Pfunderer Höhenweg trail. It is also possible to eat well, thus saving on the need to carry lots of supplies. The journey begins at Sterzing railway station and continues until (if walking at a normal pace) the Tiefrasten refuge hut is reached on the mountain ridge above the Puster Valley. After 1.5 hours the walk reaches the Kleines Tor. It then crosses over into the Mühlwaldertal valley, and heads towards the Hohe Spitz, Zwölferspitze, Putzenhöhe and Bärentalerspitze summits. Along the way hikers can enjoy the wonderful views of the Zillertal Alps and the splendid Dolomites. From the Bärental summit the trail continues via Platten to Kofler inn. From here the way leads either on foot (or by bus) to Pfalzen, the end point of the Pfunderer Höhenweg trail.
